A Prized Possession

Taking great care in what's truly important

This stained glass piece was the last thing my customers husband made before he passed away and it meant a great deal to this sweet lady. It was safely tucked under her bed for years and wanted it displayed so she could enjoy it. I nervously took great care to secure it in the window so the sunlight would shine through it and fill the room with memories

This pool deck area had not been maintained for about 15 years. It took a lot of pressure washing, a lot of lumber needed to be replaced, I rebuilt the benches, and applied deck paint

It's now a great place to just hang out

From what I'm told, this guy had quite the reputation as a real terror.

He was painted by my wife before he ended up on this red barn

This Was  Fun

Rock and Woodwork

Here we have a very old brick and block home that I have literally transformed over the years. You will see this home in other pictures on my website, if you look for the heavy wood door casings, rock work and stone pillars. This couple are writers and artists who became dear friends of mine. Notice the before picture of this area in the photo below.

IMG_20140207_162817.jpg

Before

We discussed in detail the exact look we were going after before any work began

This shows what the area looked like before the work began.

IMG_20131217_102739.jpg
IMG_20131025_100244.jpg

As you can see, this is quite a dangerous mess, especially being on the second floor.

From unuseable

IMG_20131030_175148.jpg

I also reconditioned the steps and landing leading to the ground floor

To beautiful and safe

Fence Repair

Most of this fence had to be re-built

Completed  Fence Repair

Now it looks great and you can  open and close the gate with ease

Problem Solved

It's all about the prep work

Have you ever seen a house that still looked just as crumby as before they painted it, and the only real difference is that it's a different color?

20150903_110322.jpg

Before Painting Fascia

Paint on fascia just doesn't hold up as well as it does on the walls, and much of the time it needs attention before the rest of the house.

20150903_115127.jpg

And After

So often the prep work is the difference between a nice professional job that will last, and the job you get when you try to save too much money

Saving you money

This home here is an eventual total remodel. Like so many of my customers the project will be completed as they can afford it. This is very common, and l welcome this sort of thing, so don't think you'll never have a beautiful home again. I will work WITH you, and  help with suggestions on how to get the most for your money, even if it's at my own expense. I feel that making you happy and saving you money pays off for us both in the long run

IMG_20141210_142033.jpg

This Area Really Needs A New Look

This area was claustrophobic, and very outdated, and what you can't see are the noisy squeeks that were in the floor

20161210_084050.jpg

Now That's A Lot Better

We have new floors, doors and paint, and the wall has been replaced by a useful divider with cubbies and lights on both sides. The squeaks are gone and It even has a secret hiding place inside

IMG_20140207_162706.jpg

Heavy Timber Casing Really Adds A Great Look

This is the same home you saw previously with all the rock work. Notice how it makes the grandfather clock just pop

Erosion Repair on an Access Road

20160707_102546.jpg

On this project, he water ran like a river down the road, and needed to be diverted at the top in order to keep from having to repair it after every heavy rain.

This saved my customer a ton of money in the long run

20160707_140956.jpg

You might say I just stopped a steady flow of income by making a permanent repair on this road, but referrals and happy customers are much more important

Tree Trimming  Should Be An Art

It takes some imagination to showcase the beauty behind that mess of overgroth

20160120_100239.jpg

Tree Trimming

This kind of project takes some time, and creates quite a burn pile, but it's well worth it

20160123_113015.jpg

Quite A Difference

This area is the first thing you see when entering the ranch, and just  gives it a much more inviting look

Custom Block, Rock, And Paver Project

From cactus patch to great BBQ area

IMG_20130912_152431.jpg

This was a very overgrown cactus patch before getting my tractor after it

I had a lot of fun doing this project. I first had to remove the enormous cactus before adding a concrete slab, a block wall to  accommadate the rock installation, custom pavers, and a paver cap on the rock wall

IMG_20130919_173904.jpg

It's now a Great BBQ area

My customer was so excited she couldn't see straight. I wish I had a picture of it all cleaned up

8 Foot Thistles

This was by far the worst overgrowth I've seen in Center Point

20160525_134331 (1).jpg

Before

This Project was for a local realtor to help sell the property

20160525_144217.jpg

After

This cost less than you might think

New Floor, Paint, And Shelf conversion

Old Ranch House

20160322_102338.jpg

This was a window looking into a laundry room

I boarded up the window and installed shelves in it's place

20160425_103040.jpg

A fresh new look for the room

I also installed a new laminate floor, new screens for the windows, and  gave the room a  fresh coat of paint

 The Woman Cave

For the woman cave, I installed new windows, drywall,  and a new stained deck with a metal roof

20151026_090555.jpg

As the Project came along

Inside I put up drywall and a ton of trim work

The old porch was a couple of old pallets

Now she has a new deck and roof, and new dual pane windows

My Rates

At Hill Country Handyman &  Tractor, I believe in exceptional workmanship and top-quality service. That is why I guarantee to measure up to your expectations. I will sit and meet with you to understand your needs, from the simplest fixes to more complex  projects. I will determine if I can offer a fixed price or billing based on time and materials. In most cases the customer will benefit from paying time and materials,  as no professional wants to loose money on a project, although it happens and I try my best to make it fair for both of us, a lot of projects are just to difficult to calculate, so the professional will make sure not  to loose money by calculating the project on the idea of worst case scenario, asking himself what's the worst thing that could happen? , or  what's the longest this project might take?, and the price will be based on that. So, looking at it from that perspective, it's usually cheaper by the hour, and don't be fooled by the real cheap guy either as they could be there twice as long and cost  you money in a multitude of ways

About Me

I've been in the service industry for well over 30 years.

Hello all, my name is Steve and the furry one is my long time buddy Ernie. I live in Bandera Texas now, but for most of my career I lived in the city. In a career as long as mine, my background story is just too long to tell in one page so I'll try to stay with the nuts and bolts.  I started my career installing floors with my dad during summer breaks when I  was just a boy. When I became old enough for people to take me serious as an installer,  I went to work for a large corporation that soon invited me to obtain my contractors license so I could come to work directly for the owners of the company. I just had a knack for fixing things and quickly became known  as the  guy who could fix just about anything they threw at  me.  Quite often another contractor or his helpers would install a floor and wouldn't be able to fix their mistakes, so before it was  ordered to be replaced they would send me to repair it, saving the company and the contractors a serious amount of money. I continued with this type of work for many years and with other large corporations also. I've always  loved driving  tractors since I was a kid  and with my knack for repairing things I started branching out into handyman and tractor work quite a few years ago now and haven't looked back.
